Monuments dedicated to the heroes Socrates Hadjievaggelous and Athanasis Georgiou, and to the missing persons Arestis Panayiotou and Yiannakis Georgiou, have been created in Amargeti.
The first monument is located in the square of the community, whereas the other one stands in the churchyard. At the square there is a commemorative inscription with the names of the two heroes and the two missing persons, whereas in the churchyard stands the bust of the hero Athanasis Georgiou accompanied by a commemorative inscription with a dedication to Yiannakis Georgiou.
Socrates Hadjievaggelous was killed fighting during the 1955-59 liberating fight, while taking part in rebellions against the British and Turks at the location “Xeros Potamos”.
Athanasis Georgiou fell on the day of the coup d’etat at the Archbishopric fighting for Democracy.
Arestis Panayiotou and Yiannakis Georgiou have been missing since the tragic summer of 1974, when the Turks invaded Cyprus
